Reverse Engineer

Reverse Engineer is a 3D modeling project that translates a physical object into a precise and visually engaging digital form. Using Rhino for advanced NURBS modeling, the project emphasizes surface control, proportion, and structure, highlighting the balance between technical accuracy and aesthetic refinement. Rendered in Keyshot, the model captures realistic materials and lighting to enhance visual communication. Designed for digital fabrication, it demonstrates how virtual modeling can bridge concept and production, preparing objects for 3D printing or manufacturing. Reverse Engineer showcases the intersection of creativity and precision, revealing how design technology can reinterpret everyday objects into professional, production-ready works.

In this project, I chose the subject of creating a digital model of an eyelash curler through the reverse engineering of a commonly known and used beauty tool. The process involved observing the physical model of the eyelash curler and analyzing its shape and design parameters such as the hinge and grip of the tool that are essential for its functionality and ease of use by the user.

For the reverse engineering process of the eyelash curler, the following steps were taken:

1. Observation of the tool

2. Analyzing the tool’s shape and geometric parameters

3. Creation of the digital model

I used Rhino to recreate each part with attention to detail, from the smooth metal to the rubber pad, creating a smooth transition from one to another, creating a realistic metal part and rubber pad for the final product. I then imported the final product into KeyShot to render it, adding real-world materials and lighting to the render to make it as realistic as possible, showcasing the functionality of the product for the intended purpose of an eyelash curler, creating a polished, production-ready product from a mundane one using digital modeling technology.
